Weddings in Greece

As well as being one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe, Greece is also one of the top wedding destinations in the world. There's good reason for this due to the plethora of stunning locations where you can get married. Choose one of the thousands of Greek islands to marry on, or maybe you'd prefer to marry on the mainland - the peninsula of Halkidiki is a good choice, or maybe you'd prefer a city wedding in Athens?

Each Greek island has a different vibe, so there's bound to be one for you. Santorini is the classic romantic island which everyone will know, but it is crowded as everyone wants to get a little bit of paradise!

Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Kefalonia and Zante are also well known, but all offer a great choice of wedding locations as well, and if you hire a local wedding planner they will know the best wedding locations on their island and can advise on which one would suit you best.

1. Zante (Zakynthos)

The Ionian island of Zante (Zakynthos) has soaring cliffs, turquoise seas, and gorgeous beaches, no wonder it's one of the top destination wedding locations in Greece.

Zante's natural beauty is highlighted with "blue caves" where the sun reflects into the caves through the blue sea - simply stunning!

As well as this beauty, Zante also has plenty of impressive empty beaches and secluded islets where you can marry with only your guests watching.

On the mainland, the northern peninsula of Halkidiki is another top holiday destination, but also fantastic for Greece weddings.

Most of the resorts sprinkled along the three “fingers” of the peninsula offer weddings and are experts in getting your special day just perfect.

The landscape is traditional Greek, with the odd goat sitting in a tree, and you can see snow-topped Mount Athos from the beaches and pretty bays.

Combined with the good weather, laid back atmosphere and lovely choice of venues, it's a pretty wonderful island on which to get married!

Awe-inspriring Santorini is often featured in travel programmes, a former volcano with its flower-clad, white-washed houses tumbling down the island from the crater to the sea, Santorini is often voted one of the most beautiful locations in the world.

Away from the spectacular coastline, the island has plenty of places to explore, from wine tasting at a local vineyard to trying the local food at a village taverna.

What a magnificent place to exchange vows and become Mr and Mrs?

Another pretty island, Rhodes, is an easy destination to get married in. Rhodes old town is picture-perfect for wedding photos with narrow, winding streets, fountains, minarets on buildings and busy squares filled with cafes and restaurants.

Elsewhere on the island you can find a multitude of sandy beaches and clear blue seas which make fabulous wedding choices. Or perhaps you'd like to exchange vows in an ancient village or in a chapel overlooking the sea at sunset?
