What are the legal requirements to get married in Belize?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women.
Bride and Groom may not be related by blood, marriage or adoption.
Two witnesses are required.
How long do I have to be resident in Belize before I can get married?
You will need to be in Belize for 3 days before applying for a marriage
licence and then approval can take up to a week.
Or you can apply for a Special licence, which doesn't require the 3 day
residency and takes 2 working days to process
Getting a marriage licence
You must take the papers mentioned below to the General Registry in Belize
City or to the Attorney General Office in Belmopan and fill in forms
witnessed by a Justice of the Peace.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Passports and birth certificates.
Photocopy of passports showing date of entry into Belize and your photo.
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must
be shown.
You will need certified copies of all the documents above.
