What are the legal requirements to get married in Anguilla?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women.
Bride and Groom may not be closely related by blood.
Two witnesses are required.
How long do I have to be resident in Anguilla before I can get married?
You must wait 48 hours after applying for a special marriage licence at the
Judicial Department before the ceremony can take place. You can apply
Mon-Fri 8.30am-4pm.
Getting a marriage licence
You must both bring the papers mentioned below to the Judicial Department to
obtain a special marriage licence.
If you wish to have a Catholic ceremony special requirements apply. You will
require: confirmation papers, baptismal certificate, freedom to marry
papers, pre-cana course, all produced 3-6 months before the marriage.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Passports, or birth certificates
Photo driver's licence
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must
be shown.
