Many gay couples choose to have their wedding in Ontario, where there are an amazing range of services that cater to same-sex marriages which have been legally recognised in Canada since 2005. Gay weddings can be secular or religious ceremonies. The requirements are quite simple:
- - A marriage license
- - Person legally authorized to perform the ceremony
- - Two witnesses
There are no residency or citizenship requirements nor are blood tests or medical certificates required. In order to obtain a marriage license both parties must fill out the license application which can be done online prior to arrival in Ontario, and then either person can present themselves at any city or town hall with the appropriate documentation and fee in cash ($125).
Once you’ve met the criteria you are free to go ahead with your wedding. There is no waiting period and the marriage license is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three months after it is issued.
