Easiest countries to Get Married in Around the World

Getting married abroad can be a great way to have a simple ceremony, especially if you don't want lots of fuss and extravagance. We're often asked to make suggestions for countries where it's easy to get married, so we thought we'd put together a list of the countries and regions around the world where it's not difficult to marry.

The countries below are in no particular order, and some have easier paperwork than others, but they all have short "residency" periods and it's relatively easy to exhange vows there. If you'd like more information from a local wedding planner then just click on the relevant purple button to email one of our quality wedding planners or venues for your chosen country.

1. Las Vegas

This is the easiest place in the world in which to get married, and is well known as the "Wedding Capital of the World".

If a Vegas wedding appeals to you then all you have to do is to go along to the court house, show your passports and get a marriage licence. You can then choose from any of the thousands of wedding chapels or venues in the city to get married. No waiting period, no residency, just exchange vows and you're married!

Vegas does get very busy though, so we do recommend you book accommodation before you arrive, and perhaps find a venue or chapel too?!

2. Gibraltar

Gibraltar is the easiest country in Europe in which to get married as its ceremonies are based on UK law, but without the waiting period. You do need to stay there for a minimum of 24 hours before the ceremony, but that's not too long and all the paperwork is in English, so no need to translate anything.

Most famous for its Apes and "Rock", Gibraltar weddings can take place all over the place, including outside and on top of the Rock. Many famous couples have got married here, including a James Bond!

With a wonderfully mild climate weddings in Gibraltar don't really have a season, so regardless of the time of year you'd like to get married you'll be able to do so here with ease.

This island in the Eastern Mediterranean is another very popular wedding choice. It's often available as a package holiday with the tour operator also arranging the wedding, or you can book directly with the venue yourself as most of them offer weddings or know of a wedding planner who could help.

From secluded villas to beach resorts with lots to see and do, Cyprus really does offer everything you could wish for a wedding abroad. Be aware though that there is a wedding "season" and most resorts close during the winter months, so as long as you'd like to marry between April and October you'll be fine.
