What are the legal requirements to get married in Ukraine?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for men and 17 for women.
Bride and Groom may not be related.
How long do I have to be resident in Ukraine before I can get married?
You must check with the local marriage office (ZAG) in Ukraine as they may require a period of residency. If you request a Certificate of No Impediment in Ukraine you have to have been resident for 21 days before applying and then wait 21 days after the application before the certificate is issued.
Getting a marriage licence
You must send the papers mentioned below to the ZAG at least 30 days before the ceremony takes place.
The Certificate of No Impediment needs to be translated by a certified translator before being legalised in Ukraine.
You then need to take your passports to the ZAG the day before the ceremony.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Full passports, translated and legalised with an apostille stamp.
Full birth certificates, translated and legalised with an apostille stamp.
Certificate of No Impediment, translated and legalised in Ukraine at the Consular Division of the Ukrainian Ministry for Foreign Affairs or in the UK at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (this takes 21 days in both countries).
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown, translated and legalised with an apostille stamp.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must be shown, translated and legalised with an apostille stamp.
