What are the legal requirements to get married in Seychelles?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women. If women are between
15 and 20 years old then parental consent is required.
Bride and Groom may not be related by blood or adoption.
Civil ceremonies are legally recognised under Seychelles law, religious
ceremonies are not legally binding.
An apostille stamp is required to validate the marriage certificate after the
ceremony for all nationalities except British citizens. This can be obtained at
the Registrar’s office at the Supreme Court.
How long do I have to be resident in Seychelles before I can get married?
You will need to be in the Seychelles for at least 2 days before the wedding if
you apply for a special marriage licence.
Getting a marriage licence
You must take the documents below to the Civil Status Office on Mahé, and must
advise the Civil Status Office of your wedding date at least 11 days in advance,
although this can be waived if you apply for a special licence which can be
processed in 2 days.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Passports & birth certificates.
Certificate of No Impediment to marriage (if this cannot be obtained then you
must swear an affidavit in the Seychelles).
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown, with the
seal of the divorce court.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must be
shown.
If your name has been changed then legal proof must be shown.
