How to Marry in Florida

A wedding in Florida is quite simply, simple! The legalities are easy, and you can even get married the same day you apply for a marriage licence. And there are few restrictions as to where you marry too - beach weddings are very popular here as you can imagine!

Florida Marriage Law Requirements

What are the legal requirements to get married in Florida?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women.
If between 16 and 18 years old then parental consent is required.

 

How long do I have to be resident in Florida before I can get married?
There are no residency requirements to get married in Florida.

 

Getting a marriage licence
In Florida you both need to apply in person at the Clerk of Courts for a licence, which is issued on the same day (as long as you are not a Florida resident) and is valid for 60 days.
Your wedding planner will usually help you to arrange an appointment to apply for the licence.

 

What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Valid photo identification, e.g. passport.
Certified copy of your birth certificate may be required.
If you have been divorced then you must state on the marriage licence application form the date, place and country where the previous marriage was ended.
If you are widowed then the date of the death of your previous spouse must be stated on the application form. If you have been divorced or widowed within the previous 30 days then the divorce or death certificate must be shown.
