What are the legal requirements to get married in Fiji?
Legal age for marriage is 16 years for women and 18 years for men. If under 21
then parental consent is required.
Bride and Groom may not be related by blood, marriage or adoption.
Two witnesses over the age of 21 are required.
How long do I have to be resident in Fiji before I can get married?
There are no residency requirements to get married in Fiji, although you will
need to register your intent to marry at the Registry Office in Nadi or Suva.
Getting a marriage licence
You must take the papers mentioned below in person to the Registry Office in
Nadi or Suva.
A Statutory Declaration that the couple is free to marry must be signed by a
Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or Solicitor.
The ceremony must take place within 28 days of obtaining the licence and there
is a fee of approximately $25FJD.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Valid 10-year passports.
Original birth certificates.
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must be
shown.
