Dominica Marriage Law Requirements

What are the legal requirements to get married in Dominica?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women.
Bride and Groom may not be closely related by blood.
Two witnesses are required who are over 18 years old.

 

How long do I have to be resident in Dominica before I can get married?
One of you must be in Dominica for at least 2 days before the licence application. Once you have applied for your marriage licence it takes 2 or 3 days to be granted.

 

Getting a marriage licence
You must both bring the papers mentioned below to the Ministry of Community Development in Roseau.

 

What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Passports and a photocopy of the photo page.

Declaration that you are single, which you can sign in Dominica in front of a Commissioner of Oaths.
Application form “G” obtained from the Ministry of Community Development, signed by both of you and witnessed by a magistrate.
You may need to provide a letter stating your names and occupations.
Both witnesses must show their passports or photo ID.
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must be shown.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your previous spouse must be shown.
